Overview

For over two decades, the Alliance of Resident Theatres/New York (A.R.T./New York) has provided grants to support small and mid-sized theatres in New York City and State. A.R.T./New York offers microgrants to all A.R.T./New York members (both organizations & Individuals) who would like to hire specialized professionals to advance anti-oppression and accessibility efforts at their organizations, and applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

It is important to A.R.T./New York that we do not perpetuate the white supremacist practice of gatekeeping by restricting our members to only the consultants we have previously identified. Applicants are welcome to work with any professional they choose, regardless of whether or not they are on this list, and we will continue to update the list as we learn more from our community about different people doing this work. For deeper, long-term organizational change work outside of what this microgrant can financially support, we recommend inquiring about our Theatre Leadership Program.

These grants are not intended to fund directors, stage managers, actors, writers, or other similar positions; they are intended to fund specialists.  These specialists can either be hired to support a specific project or to work with an organization as a whole; they may also be hired by independently-formed cohorts of organizations who may wish to pool their resources in order to have the professional(s) support all of their organizations.

• BlackBee Entertainment: With the expertise of a Cultural Coordinator, Diversity Editor, and Intimacy Specialist, BlackBee assesses your materials and teams to ensure the production of new stories in safe and equitable spaces from the ground up.

• Ring of Keys Consultancy Directory: The Ring of Keys Consultancy Directory is a resource for producers, casting directors, and theatremakers who are in need of a Gender Consultant or Queer Consultant for their theatrical projects.

• Intimacy Coordinators of Color: Intimacy Coordinators of Color supports and promotes decolonized intimacy education and inclusive hiring practices in the entertainment industry.

• Daniel Lim Consulting: DL Consulting is a team of social justice consultants, facilitators, and trainers who partner with organizations and communities to build regenerative and liberatory cultures.

• Keryl McCord / Equity Quotient: EQ provides dismantling racism training, and organizational planning and development through the lens of racial, cultural, and ethnic diversity.

• Women of Color in the Arts (WOCA): A grassroots, people-powered, member-driven, national service organization dedicated to promoting equity and fortifying leadership. To request consulting services, potential clients should submit WOCA's intake form to express interest.

• Rebecca KellyG Equity and Justice Consulting: Rebecca KellyG is an anti-racist/anti-oppression facilitator, artist, BIPOC Actors' Advocate, and former civil rights attorney partnering with artists and multi-racial arts organizations/communities to heal internalized oppression, build capacity for generative discomfort and self-reflection, as well as shift practices toward equity and justice. • Hands On: A nationally recognized agency that specializes in providing access to arts and cultural programs for the Deaf and hard of hearing communities through sign interpreted performances, consultations, and more.

• All Hands in Motion: All Hands in Motion offers a variety of services that includes American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation including remote interpreting services, tactile interpreting, oral transliteration, speech-to-text transcription, and community recreation initiatives. 

• c2: c2 (caption coalition) inc is the pioneer of Live Performance Captioning for Hard of Hearing and Deaf patrons at live theatrical and cultural events, and is internationally recognized as the leading authority in the field.

• CaptionAccess: A Deaf-owned company that offers CART and post-production captioning, in addition to other services.

• Gravity Access Services: Gravity Access Services offer a range of services to make live performance more accessible to audience members with diverse sensory modalities and physicalities. These include live and recorded Audio Description services, pre-show Haptic Access Tours, ASL referral services, Site Visits, Media Assessments, and General Accessibility consulting.

• Prime Access Consulting (PAC): An inclusive design firm that helps design and implement accessible solutions that make knowledge, culture, and technology available to the widest possible audience.

• Sharing the Stage: Developed by CO/LAB Theater Group, this professional development workshop is ideal for any organization aiming to assess their accessibility practices and develop as a team.
