ABOUT THE RENTAL SUBSIDY FUND

The purpose of the Rental Subsidy Fund is to ensure that the A.R.T./New York Theatres are affordable rental spaces for our members in the long term. With generous underwriting from the A.R.T./New York Board of Directors, foundations, and individual donors, the Rental Subsidy Fund will ensure that our weekly rental rates remain affordable, and our rental fees are far below the true cost of operating the theatres and providing the staff support and state-of-the-art equipment that our renters will receive. Our goal is for the theatres to be made available for the community in accordance with A.R.T./New York's values.

There are two ways to apply for the Rental Subsidy Fund: the Annual Application for Full Subsidy, or the Rolling Application for Tiered Subsidy.

Before applying, please review all of the following information:

Guidelines, Eligibility, and Criteria »

Facilities and rental package information »

Theatres FAQ »

TWO WAYS TO APPLY:

For both the Annual and Rolling Applications the guidelines, eligibility, and evaluation criteria remain the same. All subsidized rentals must be for a 3-8 week period.

Annual Application

For Full Subsidy

The annual application for the Rental Subsidy Fund opens and closes late each summer. This application provides all eligible applicants the opportunity to apply for full subsidy. The advantages of the Annual application include:

  • First opportunity for scheduling
  • Full subsidy regardless of budget size
  • Dates reserved well in advance of production

2018-2019 Fully Subsidized Rates:

Jeffrey and Paula Gural Theatre:  $3,000/week

Mezzanine Theatre:  $5,000/week

Standard (non-subsidized) rentals are not permitted until after the annual application closes for that time frame so that subsidized rentals can receive priority when booking the theatres.

The 2018-2019 application for the Rental Subsidy Fund opened on July 17, 2017 and closed on August 21, 2017 at 5:00pm.

The 2019-2020 application for the Rental Subsidy Fund will open in the late summer of 2018.

Application Closed

Rolling Application

For Tiered Subsidy

To accommodate organizations unable to make the early commitment needed for the Annual Application, the Rolling Application for the Rental Subsidy Fund has no open or close date. Instead, members may apply for subsidized rentals at any time for any available dates. The panel evaluating applications meets monthly, so all applications received by the end of a given month will receive a response by the end of the following month at the latest (i.e. an application received by November 29 with receive a determination by December 31).

Rolling applications are for partial subsidy. These rates are based on the organization's membership tier.
