Sharing the Stage

Wednesday, November 3, 2021
5:00pm - 7:30pm ET

Format: Online
Location: Zoom
Intended Audience: Beginner level - CO/LAB’s professional development workshop is ideal for any organization aiming to assess their accessibility practices and develop as a team.
Participation Level: High - This workshop involves discussion and practical exercises.

CO/LAB aims to support our community in creating open and accepting organizations that are welcoming for employees, audiences, and partners. Our goal through this workshop is to inspire participants to question how inclusive their organizational practices and spaces are for people with developmental disabilities.

This workshop uses basic theater practices to provide strategies and tools for working with individuals with developmental disabilities in an inviting, safe, creative space. The session will be facilitated by two CO/LAB Teaching Artists and supported by two CO/LAB:Leaders, experienced CO/LAB participants with developmental disabilities. We will discuss language and terminology, walk participants through potential scenarios, and offer space for thoughtful discussion and collaboration. Though this workshop is grounded in theater practices, it is accessible and suitable to all people—no previous theater experience required!

CO/LAB Theater Group is a non-profit organization that provides individuals with developmental disabilities a creative and social outlet through theater arts. With a decade of experience in our field, we provide on-site classes and programming for adults, teens, and kids that culminate in original performances as well as partnership programs throughout the community.

All A.R.T./New York workshops, roundtables, and trainings feature automated captioning provided by Zoom. ASL interpretation and CART captioning services are available by request; requests must be made at least 5 business days before the event. For requests, accessibility information, or other accommodations please contact David Shane at [email protected].
